We slept late this Sunday morning, having breakfast at 9 am. From there we traveled to Dunvegan Castle. Dunvegan was the first castle Wayne and I ever visited in Scotland, so it holds a dear place in our hearts. On our first visit we were met by a Robin on the grounds, who seemed to want to show us the way. This visit, we also met up with a friendly Robin, who seemed quite happy to see us. |
After touring the castle, we ate at their restaurant, where we had fish and chips and I introduced Wayne's parents to brown sauce. Here we met a smug lady who was living on Skye but was from Arizona. We also saw a lot of the local "back-yard" birds at a bird feeder - chaffinches and tits. |
From Dunvegan we drove North to the site of Trumpan Church, which we had not visited before. This is the site of a MacLeod massacre, where all but one person at the Sunday services were burned alive inside the church. It was a fascinating church, and there were wonderful views from the road and the church itself.
Skye brought a change of scenery in that there are many more sheep here, and since this was lambing season, it was great fun! We saw many baby lambs cavorting in the fields and getting lunch from their mama ewes. We also saw quite a few Highland Cows. We had dinner at the Cafe Arriba, a new place in Portree. It was quite good.
