Chronicle of a trip to Scotland: 4/8/04

Lewis, Harris, Skye

We headed South to Harris to do some shopping before the ferry departed. Wayne and I always find it difficult to leave Lewis and Harris - this island feel like home to us, and it gets harder to leave every time. We stayed on deck saying our silent goodbyes to it until it disappeared into the mists.

Duntulm   When we arrived on Skye, it was showing itself to truly be the Misty Isle, with the mountains barely discernable through the mists. We took the narrow North road around the Trotternish peninsula, to take in what sights we could see through the mist. We stopped at Duntulm Castle, but the paths were too wet and slippery, so Mom and Wayne stayed behind while Dad and Jo made a very quick tour of the castle.

Then we stopped at Kilt Rock to look at the views, the rock formation, and the waterfall. We stopped for a B&B at Broadford, where we knew there to be laundry facilities. We found a very nice B&B called Tigh na Croisean, and set out to do our laundry at the Esso station. (Where you can get a "Put a Tiger in your tank" car sticker in Gaelic.) We picked up sandwiches and snacks at the Esso and had dinner in the laundrette.
