Our final day started by looking as rainy as the previous, but we decided to stop at Dunstaffnage castle on the way out of Oban anyway. This proved fortuitous, because the weather cleared while we were there - it went from totally socked in with no view to a beautiful view in a matter of minutes. The castle has an impressive curtain wall, and a chapel behind it that catches my imagination.

From here we headed towards Glasgow, stopping in Taynuilt at Robin's Tea Room for a good lunch and some scones. We made good time to the Glasgow area, and had time to stop at Dumbarton Castle on the way into town. We had never been to Dumbarton before, and soon found that it's built in layers on a small mountain. Mom made it to the first level. Dad climbed with us to the second, and Wayne and I went alone to the top. It's an impressive structure, and I'd like to revisit sometime when we have more time. |
We proceeded into Glasgow, to the Glasgow Guest House, an excellent B&B in town. We headed out for Indian at a wonderful buffet place we'd tried before (The New Anand), and then went in search of a bookstore. (Ended up at a Borders, of all things.) Finally, back to try to pack all of our belonging and gifts and souvenirs into our bags for the flight home.
Glasgow Guest House was happy to accommodate us with an excellent early breakfast, and then we headed out to catch our flight. The flights home were relatively uneventful, but ran late. Our friend Holly picked us up at the airport and unfortunately had to wait around for about an hour for us to arrive.
It has been several days since we came home, but it is hard to let go of the
experience. It was a wonderful trip, both invigorating and relaxing, and was
just what we needed. My first-ever trip to Scotland without me having any
music activities ended up being a good one, and it was a pleasure to get to
share these things with Wayne's parents.
